Refugees. Trafficking. Race. I know it’s a lot, and I do hesitate and second guess myself a gazillion times before posting yet another thing to challenge how we engage with the world around us, but Dr Seuss just keeps playing over & over in my head:
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It’s not”.
– The Lorax
There are some massive issues around race and privilege (particularly here in the US, but I think it translates in some way to many other countries, my own included) that I honestly had no idea about until a year or so ago – and so many of us still live in that ignorance – I believe we have a responsibility to open our ears and our eyes and seek to understand ‘how our lives are part of a system that is connected to the lives of others’.
This conversation is the exact one I’ve been having over & over for the past year as I’ve wrestled with understanding privilege & systemic injustice, and
@michaelgungor, @mikemchargue,@prophiphop & @williamimatthews in this podcast by @theliturgists do an incredible job of bringing clarity and calling out why we need to learn and engage.
I really encourage you to take the hour and a half and just listen… http://www.theliturgists.com/podcast/2016/3/29/episode-34-black-and-white-racism-in-america
